Group Psychotherapy

Group therapy offers some powerful and unique ways to help you become stronger and healthier. Be part of a cohesive, therapeutically effective team working together to resolve issues. Learn with and from other people.

The Form

Ongoing general psychotherapy group with up to eight members. Members are intelligent, well-functioning men and women of various ages. They may be working on a variety of issues, including relationships, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, assertiveness, trust, intimacy, sexuality, loss and career dissatisfaction. Sessions are weekly and last 75 minutes. Each group is led by myself and one other highly qualified group therapist.

The Substance

Group can teach you a lot about the emotions, thoughts, and conflicts that get evoked in you by other people. Different people can stir up a wide range of reactions in us. You may experience comfort, camaraderie, sadness, pleasure, insecurity, confidence, envy, anger, competitiveness, or admiration. When these responses occur outside of therapy, they may produce uncertainty, discomfort and conflict. In group therapy, you have an unparalleled opportunity to examine your reactions with fellow members who are equally committed to explore constructively, honestly and supportively. In addition, you will learn from others about the responses you evoke in them. Although this feedback is sometimes difficult to hear, it is extremely therapeutic when it is in the context of a team which has a shared agenda of working to change patterns and behaviors which are maladaptive. Ultimately, the feedback you receive over time leads to greater self-awareness, greater self-esteem and an enhanced sense of efficacy.

Start taking steps toward resolving the issues that get in the way of being happier with yourself and your relationships.
